Welcome to Claris Home Page Lite!
This file contains last minute information
that will help you get more from Claris Home
Page Lite. You will also find important tips in
the "Troubleshooting" section of the Claris Home
Page Lite onscreen help. In particular, this
document provides information about:
1. Installation
2. Technical Notes and Tips
3. Late-Breaking Issues and More Information on
the Product

unsupported product. The full version of Claris

1. INSTALLATION
Claris Home Page Lite will install the following
folders and files onto your hard disk:
- The Claris Home Page Lite application
- A Clip Art folder and images
- A Help folder, containing files in HTML format
- An empty Startup folder. (If you would like Home
Page to automatically open a file, such as a
library, place that file or a shortcut to it in
this folder).
- A "Templates" folder, containing web page
templates for different styles of pages
- This Read Me file
- A text file version of the Claris Software
License Agreement
When installing Claris Home Page Lite, free
disk space of approximately 20MB is required for
use as temporary space during the installation
process.
2. TECHNICAL NOTES AND TIPS
A. Find/Change Limitation
Find in Find/Change is limited to 31
characters. A Find for a text string longer
than 31 characters followed by a Replace
replaces only the first 31 characters of that
string.
B. Double-clicking on an HTML File Opens
it in a Browser
Only one application is allowed to be the
default viewer for a given file extension. In
this case, the browser is the default viewer
for HTML files, so it is opened when you click
on an HTML file. To open an HTML file in
Claris Home Page Lite, drag the file itself
(not a shortcut) to the Claris Home Page icon,
or start Claris Home Page Lite directly, and
choose Open from the File menu. You can also
change the association of the file type-see your
Windows documentation for more details.
C. Multiple Browsers can be Opened When a
Page is Previewed
Some browsers will restart each time a page is
previewed and a new copy of the application is
opened. To free memory, close the application
windows not in use.
D. Inserting AVI Files
Insert .AVI files through the Insert Plugin
menu item. AVI files will not show in the
Insert QuickTime movie dialog.
E. Working With Remote Files
If you're exchanging files with a site outside
a network firewall that requires PASV ftp,
you'll need to use a different application to
upload and download files. The save may
appear to work, but will create blank files 0k
in size.
F. QuickTime Movies for Web Pages
QuickTime Movies need to be flattened to play
in web browsers.
G. Crash after inserting a QuickTime movie
Video cards that use Hardware Drivers for
QuickTime may cause a crash with Home Page if
you insert a QuickTime or QuickTime VR movie.
To fix this problem go into the QuickTime
control panel and click "More". Select the
"Video" tab. Under "Current Video Settings"
set "Draw Method" from "Hardware Driver" to
"Video Driver".
H. Resizing Movie Files
Movie files, such as QuickTime VR panorama or
.AVI files insert very small. They must be be
resized manually.
I. Uploading files to AOL
Several considerations must be made prior to
uploading your Web Site files to America Online.
If you need further information on any of these
items, please sign in to America Online and goto
keyword "MyPlace". Details regarding the amount
of disk space available to members and other
special conditions are covered in the help
information at this location.
** Members must first sign on to America Online
and go to keyword "MyPlace". When you do this,
America Online will automatically create a
Web Site for you named with your Member name.
** You must first sign on to America Online
before launching Claris Home Page Lite to upload
your Web Site documents, and America Online must
stay running during the file transfer.
